We are seeking a student counsellor who will be working alongside a team of counsellors and wellbeing advisers to ensure a high-quality student experience. You will have the opportunity to use your professional skills and experience in a flexible way to best support our students, working alongside the Wellbeing and Inclusion team. The post holder will be providing one-to-one time-limited sessions to our students and will support the Wellbeing and Inclusion Manager and Wellbeing Advisors deal with complex, crisis cases.

With a degree and relevant professional qualification in counselling/psychotherapy, BACP/UKCP membership and substantial experience as a practitioner, you will have experience in a similar role in further/higher education.

We are looking for a hard-working, focused and caring individual who is genuinely interested in people and committed to supporting applicants from different backgrounds. This role is about listening carefully, asking the right questions and providing clear guidance so students can make informed decisions about their future. 

The right person will be confident speaking to new applicants, comfortable working towards targets, and able to follow up consistently with care and professionalism. You will need to be organised, open-minded and willing to learn, while also having the drive to achieve strong results.

If you enjoy speaking to people, understanding their goals and helping them start their journey towards the right course and career, this role could be a great fit for you.

What you'll be doing:

  • Contacting new leads and applicants in a timely, professional, and supportive manner.
  • Assessing applicant goals, qualifications, and readiness before recommending suitable routes.
  • Providing clear information, advice, and guidance on university courses and career options.
  • Maintaining accurate CRM records, call notes, and applicant updates in line with compliance requirements.
  • Following up consistently with candidates to support conversion from enquiry to application, interview, offer, and enrolment.
  • Working proactively towards individual and team targets while maintaining high standards of service.

What we are looking for:

  • Education: A University Degree is required for this role.
  • Experience: Previous experience working in a target-driven environment is essential. Backgrounds in student recruitment, sales, customer service, or employability support are highly desirable.
  • Industry Knowledge: Knowledge of UK higher education, further education, or training pathways is a big plus.
  • Key Skills: Excellent communication and listening skills, strong organizational discipline, and confidence using CRM and phone systems.
